St. James Episcopal Church

Newcomers

If you are interested in becoming a member of St. James, the priests, our parish secretary, or any member of the Newscomers' Ministry will welcome the chance to answer your questions. When you visit us in person, please sign our guest book and allow us to welcome you at our next Newcomers' Reception.

Welcome to St. James!

You may have attended one of our services. Perhaps you have thumbed through our booklet of ministries or are browsing our website.

Whatever your way of learning about our church, please know that we are glad you are here! Our vision for St. James is that God’s ever-present love enables us to serve. Our goals are that we:

  • be a community where all people are welcome,
  • reach out to those in need,
  • offer meaningful worship and Christian education for all ages,
  • enhance our pastoral care and parish life programs, and
  • develop innovative stewardship programs.

Following the example of Jesus’s servant ministry, we believe that every member plays an important role in meeting these goals as we give of ourselves, in love, to the world around us. If I, or any of the staff, can be of assistance to you, please call us. Join us as we worship; become a member of the St. James family.

Shalom, Joel

Questions to Think About

Have you been baptized or do you wish to be baptized?

Do you attend services regularly and receive the sacrament of Holy Communion (if baptized) ?

Are you ready to participate in the overall life of the church?

Are you ready to financially support the work & mission of the Church?

Three Ways to Become a Member

  1. Letter of Transfer from your former church, where you were an active member
  2. Confirmation or “Laying on of Hands” by the Bishop, following a confirmation class studying the catechism (Outline of Faith)
  3. Received by the Bishop. Confirmed members of the Roman Catholic Church or of one of the Eastern Orthodox churches may be received into membership when the Bishop lays hands on a group of new confirmands.

Becoming a member of the Episcopal Church is a very user-friendly process, so don’t hesitate to start it by asking for information!

When you decide to become a member, you will be asked to complete two important forms. Return them to the Parish Secretary.

  • New Member Information Sheet This adds you to the database (and your name to the list for special birthday prayers).
  • Time and Talent Sheet Prayerfully consider where your spiritual journey is leading you. There are ministries for every kind of time and talent you may have.

Real membership leads us to participate and by doing so we receive many unexpected blessings. Call any ministry leader from the current list for information. They welcome your call!
