St. James youth are an integral part of our parish life. We have several programs geared toward giving youth the opportunity for fellowship and strengthening their Christian faith. Click here for more information on weekly Youth Christian Education opportunities.
- Middlers (Grades 6-8) meet weekly during the school year. Their focus is on having fun in the community. Another component is teaching about the Episcopal faith. Service and mission to the larger community is fostered by their annual summer mission trip or mission experience where they are directly involved in assisting people in need.
- Senior EYC (Grades 9-12) meets weekly during the school year. The focus on faith for this group is three-fold: First, is personal faith; second, to serve St. James Church by working at receptions and other events, and working with parishioners with special needs; third, becoming committed to mission in the community and beyond. This group goes on a Pilgrimage every other year during which they explore what their faith means as they take on projects to assist people in other parts of our country or the world.
St. James also holds ongoing special events for youth, such as:
- First Sunday of each month, at the 9:00 service, the youth are Chalice Bearers and Lectors. The sermon is for youth and they gather around the altar for Communion.
- Diocesan Involvement: Several Diocesan events are held each year. Middlers attend New Beginnings for Middle School Youth. Senior EYC attends the fall and spring Senior High Conferences.
- Vacation Bible School is a cooperative venture of Hendersonville churches for children 4 to 12. Each church is responsible for a part of the overall program. In 2008, 100 children attended.
