“To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us – and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of
existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.” — Thomas Merton
Many years ago, I kept a gratitude journal as a part of my Lenten discipline. In this process, I learned to really pay attention to the events of my life and where God is in them. Once I recognized the grace and mercy that God lavishes on us, the only response is to say thank you. I began by giving my time, talent and financial resources in ways that I felt would be pleasing to God. I learned to trust that what I let go of would return to me exponentially. Through the ministries that I participate in at St. James – Flower Guild, Feed the Kids, Lay Eucharistic Visitor, Pastoral Care, Foyers – I have made priceless friends, learned new skills and brought joy to others in doing so. When I participate in the flow of God’s grace and providence, I am blessed to be a blessing – because I have more than enough.
