Candlemas 2019 is fast approaching

The 2019 Candlemas concert will be held in the St. James nave on Sunday, January 27th  at 4:00 p.m. This year’s featured artist is pianist Paul Sullivan, who also performed at Candlemas 2012. Mr. Sullivan’s music combines jazz and classical styles and has won wide acclaim. As a member of the Paul Winter Consort, he won a Grammy Award in 2006. Although often appearing with his own trio or as part of the Paul Winter Consort, Mr. Sullivan will present a solo concert at St. James. Full information about Mr. Sullivan’s career and links to his music can be found at

Candlemas 2019 will also include a post-concert reception in the parish hall—“Hors d’oeuvres by Candlelight”—catered by Hubba Hubba Smokehouse Specialty Catering. And as always, the proceeds from the concert will be used to provide local hunger relief, supporting the work of Interfaith Assistance Ministry, the Storehouse and the Hendersonville Rescue Mission.

Tickets for Candlemas can be obtained in a variety of ways. For a contribution of $100, supporters can sign on as concert Underwiters. Underwriters typically receive two tickets and take the remaining $60 as a tax deduction. Alternately, individual tickets can be purchased for $20 at the St. James reception desk, the Visitor Information Center, and Diamond Rush Jewelry in Laurel Park Village. Tickets will also be sold after church services beginning January 13. For further information regarding tickets or the concert, please contact Outreach Commission members Frank Byrd (779-0624 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Please plan on joining us on January 27th  to hear the music of Paul Sullivan. Not only will you enjoy a wonderful concert, but also have the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped relieve hunger in our community.
